11-09 Edmundston
The first thing we saw was a Lancaster, the story behind this particular
Lancaster, number KB882, is that it was built sometime in the spring of
1945 and flew 7 combat missions over Germany as well as several
assimilation flights, all of which were undertaken with 428 Squadron,
RCAF.
It was then laid up for several years before being converted to a
photographic reconnaissance role. From 1952 until 1964 it was with 408
Squadron and involved in the project to photograph the High Arctic
regions of Canada. it was bought by the city of Edmundston in 1964,
refurbished, and flown to the airfield.. |

After we left the ferry at Saint
-Simeon we had our first gimps of information on the radio about what
had happened in New York. At arriving at the gate at Bagotville the PA
officer informed us about the situation and that visits was not possible
because the where on red alert. At this moment the real magnitude of the
situation came to us, we had heard ( in French) that there was something
with a plane and the World trade centre , but is was much bigger and
something you could not imagine until you saw it on television. On
advise by the PA officer the first thing we did was booking a hotel
because in the coming hours the base would be flooded by planes that
were not allowed to enter the USA. Sitting at our hotel room we were
flooded with images of what happened in the States. Every were you went
the images were the same , planes flying in to the World Trade Centre .
The evening was spend at the local Italian and bar talking about what
happened and what we were going to do the next days. |
