In Taitung we
booked a spotters friendly hotel, after a tip from someone who
made the journey before, they even serve the breakfast on the
spotting terrace.
At the terrace which gives a splendid elevated view on base we
met a Taiwanese spotter who had been there sins Tuesday and who
showed us some pictures off the day before, when it was in
contrary to the weather forecast very nice weather and the
flying was good, so far for the weather boys. |

Around 8:00 the first F-5 was pulled out to the flight line and
preparations were made for an early departure, at that moment
the clouds rolled in and the wind picket-up enough to cancel the
first mission of the day. |

After a while it became clear via the Taiwanese spotter that
probably all flying for the day was cancelled due to the
weather. We stayed until after lunchtime on the hotel roof in
the hoop that there would be some flying activity. In the end we
had to be content with a visiting C-130 and Beech 1900.
After the lunch we went to the viaduct to picture the F-5's on
the flight line but it was obvious that there would be no flying
any more that day and we set off back in de direction of Pintung
as the weather would be no good at Hualien AFB the next few
days. |

This evening we had a hotel in de centre of Gangshan which gave us the
opportunity to explore the city centre and especially the food market.
Taiwan's night markets are legendary. With over a hundred in Taiwan, they sell a
mixture of Xiao chi (substantial snacks), drinks, apparel and accessories in a
dazzling array of small stalls . |
