facilitates Ukraine’s F-16 crew chief training
In January 2025, Ukraine’s Defence Minister Rustem Umerov visited his
Dutch counterpart Ruben Brekelmans to discuss the support of The
Netherlands in the Ukraine war effort against their Russian aggressor.
During a flash visit to The Netherlands on 31st January, Umerov visited
the Dutch MoD ministry at the Hague to meet with Brekelmans.

Umerov and his staff arrived on a Ukraine Defense Force Antonov-26 at
Rotterdam Airport.

Besides the ongoing delivery of 24 former Royal Netherlands Air Force (RNLAF)
F-16 fighters, pilot training on 18 Dutch F-16’s is taking place at the
European Fighter Training Center at Fetesti Air Base, Romania.
During the meeting, it was announced that the RNLAF is facilitating F-16
crew chief training at a military air base in the Netherlands.

A total of 26 crew chiefs will be trained in the coming months, readying
them to support F-16 operations in Ukraine this year.
After the ‘office’ meeting, Umerov and his staff were flown to the
training location, where he was met by RNLAF commander LGEN “Jabba”
Steur and Air Combat Command (ACC) commander CDRE “Bo” Van Egmond.
Together with Denmark and the United States, the Netherlands share the
leadership of the Air Force Capability Coalition (AFCC).
The purpose of this cooperation is to make the Ukrainian air force
interoperable with NATO partners..
