Musée de l'Aviation Clément Ader at Lyon Corbas

On arrival at the museum location the first plane you will see is a Nord 262A displayed next to the main hangar.

Musée de l'Aviation Clément Ader

Located on the Corbas aerodrome, south of Lyon, the “Clément Ader” aviation museum has a collection of aircraft, engines and equipment representative of the national aeronautical heritage and illustrating 100 years of aviation French.

The “Clément Ader” museum has the advantage of being located on a very active aeronautical platform which brings together almost all of the disciplines that constitute leisure aviation: skydiving, flying school as well as other associations (amateur construction, aircraft flight restoration collectible) giving the home of the museum an active feel.

The museum is managed by a non-profit association Espaces Aéro Lyon-Corbas (EALC) association, with around a hundred members, all volunteers, and which has been restoring aircraft, engines and equipment since 2003 with the aim of presenting them to the public. It has been open to the public since December 20123. The museum has since exhibited around thirty aircraft (planes, helicopters, gliders, paragliders, and drones), engines of all types as well as a collection of models and dioramas in buildings formerly occupied by the 5th Light Helicopter Group of the Army Light Aviation (ALAT)

The collection at the museum is composed exclusively of French build aircraft. Most of them saw service in the French Air Force, Navy and army before being added to the collection.

Some of the aircraft presented are unique pieces (Dassault Mirage III R no. 02 prototype, Déchaux Hélicop-Jet helicopter, replica of a Zipfel airplane from 1908 and the Santos Dumont Demoiselle dating from 1909).
The quality of the restoration work done by the association is off a standard that won the several award’s, the Dassault Mirage IV-P no. 28 which was classified as a Historic Monument in April 20156 and Dassault MD 450 Ouragan no. 297 which won the Grand Prix de l'Aéroclub de France 2020 As such, the museum benefits from the support of the Ministry of Defense and has been accredited by the Armed Forces Heritage Commission

Some of the airworthy aircraft of the collection are at the other side of the airport at the flying club

The museum is not very large, but its collection is growing rather fast, as the association has strong and close relationships with the French Forces and French manufacturers. This has a down side that the aircraft on display are positioned quite close next to each other, which doesn’t really help good photography.
Around ten additional aircraft have been entrusted to it but cannot be exhibited for the moment due to lack of covered spaces to shelter them.

Normally guided tours are only given during the opening ours of the museum to groups , we were lucky to have a private visit outside the normal opening hours thanks to a kind volunteer.

The museum is more than worth the visit when you are in de neighbourhood.
We want to thank the volunteers who have guided us through this beautiful museum and we will definitely come back to see the growing collection.
