Phantom mania at
Wittmund,
Wittmund, 30-06-2009.
On arrival at Wittmund at 08:00 in the morning the first Hornets where
already taking off. At 08:15 4 Phantoms where in the air.
At the base things have changed with the new fence, but there are still
options enough fore taking pictures.
We started in the the take-off and landing spot and during the during
the day worked our way to the end of the runway.
The Swiss Hornets are based at Wittmund
for a month. This for life firing exercises and to reduces the noise in
the alps during the holiday season. We had a great day All the Hornets
flew lots of Phantoms A-4's and some visitors. In the afternoon we
decided to go hunting for W&R in the neighbourhood on our way back home.
At the BlücherKaserne (Skagerrakstr. 10, 26603 Aurich) in Aurich coming
from Wittmund you see a sign pointing to the Kaserne (to the left), it
is roughly located in Northeast part of the town. At this Kaserne there
is an old JBG38 Tornado in special markings and a F104 on a pole, a new
addition is the special colour F-4 38+49 the star of last years spotters
day. Next to the kreisvolkshochschule in Aurich is the fuselage of F-4
37+33, it is not more than a empty hull.
