A visit to the lynx squadron at de Kooy and Skyline aviation.
On august 28 we made a visit to de Kooy
NAS together with GRAS.
On the 28th august 2004, the day started with a lot of rain.
After a friendly welcome at the base we started the visit in the tradition chamber. Next to a lot of historical artefacts and photos there are displayed a ex FAA Sea Hawk and Wasp
After a tour via the meteo we went on to the flight line and maintenance hanger. On the flight line there was some action and sun shine. The Lynx is going to be replaced with the NH90 in the near future, and there is talk to bring all the helicopters of the
Dutch armed forces to Gilze-Rijen. So this visit to de Kooy NAS may be the last one.
The second visit of the day was to Skyline Aviation. They operate specially equipped aircraft for radar calibration, electronic warfare and we tow targets for real gunnery firing exercises
most of them are L-39.
The maintenance is done at de Kooy. But due to the short runway operational flying is done from Valkenburg NAS. With the closure of Valkenburg NAS and de coming budget cuts the future off the target towing
is uncertain.
