With the rental car collected it was off to
Hsinchu for the first aircraft of Republic of China Air Force
RoCAF. Hsinchu is the home to the 499th Tactical Fighter Wing,
with three squadrons of Dassault Mirage 2000-5. As we had heard
from several people spotting at this location is not really a
problem. While where there we saw a lot of local spotters at the
south end of the base.
After a slow start the flying really took off and in the span
off a few hours we saw five teen different Mirage 2000. |

We decided that we would move during the lunch to the next base
Taichung home to the 427th Tactical Fighter Wing, with three
squadrons of AIDC F-CK-1 Ching-kuo. At Taichung the
possibilities are quite different as the base is surrounded by a
big wall.
With the help google maps we found a spot at the end
of runway 36 and waited for the first planes to return as we
heard some taking off while we were having lunch. And sure after
a little while the first two AIDC F-CK-1 Ching-kuo retuned, with
the aircraft being high in the position where we were and no
sound of aircraft taking off we decided to do still another base
that day.

Sinshe as this was only about 30 minutes away from Taichung and
the weather was still nice. Sinshe is the home of the 602nd
Airborne Brigade flying the AH-1W in two squadrons and the UH-1
and OH-58.
On arrival at Sinshe there was an AH-1W in the
circuit and it gave us some nice shots before the sun went
behind the mountains. According to some reports it was possible
to see some choppers from the different mushroom growers along
the base, we tried to find the spot but where not successful.

Content with the result off the first day the plan for the next
day would be Chiayi and Tainan, so a hotel was booked in Chiayi
and we travelled via a probably very beautiful mountain road in
the daylight to Chiayi.

On arrival at the hotel the effect of lack of sleep and the
different time zones was noted by all of us.
So after a very good mail and a beer it was lights out.
