The Queensland Air Museum
at Caloundra hosts quite an extensive range of aircraft both military and
civil. I was quite surprised by how big their collection is.
The proposal of building a museum started in the year 1973, when a team of
aviation enthusiasts wanted to invest their money to keep Australia’s
aviation heritage alive. The whole museum project started with buying an old
Canberra bomber. Gradually, this fledgling museum started becoming popular
with new addition of many artefacts and exhibits by the enthusiastic
members.
The museum’s aircraft collection is made up of a large variety of aircraft
types that represent many different aspects of aviation.
Military aircraft represent different branches of the Australian armed
forces as well as examples from the Royal Air Force , Royal Navy , Republic
of Singapore Air Force and Polish Air Force. Passenger aircraft types
represent Australian and Papua New Guinean airlines, such as Ansett Airlines
and Airlines of Tasmania.
The museum’s collections also represent the war efforts and various
accomplishments of the Australian armed forces and navy, with some of them
also showing the flight routes, pilot uniforms and the pilot licenses on
display. |
