The Hill Aerospace Museum

Its a full house Hill Aerospace Museum

The museum was founded in 1981 as a part of the United States Air Force Heritage Program and first opened in 1986. It moved to its current facility in 1991
situated at Wardleigh Road approximately five miles south of Ogden, Utah. Admission to the museum is free and it opens seven days a week from 9am to 4.30pm,

The museum sits on 30 acres on the northwest corner of Hill Air Force Base.
Visitors here can see over 60 military aircraft, missiles and aerospace vehicles as well as a wide variety of ordnance, an assortment of aerospace ground equipment.

The collection of aircraft is quite large and includes a variety of aircraft from different periods off the aviation history. Among the many aircraft on display are the B-17 Flying Fortress, SR-71 Blackbird, a Curtiss JN-4D “Jenny” ,
a F-16 Fighting Falcon and F-18 Hornet.

The aircraft are divided into five exhibits that focus on a specific era in the history of flight. Including The Beginnings, which takes visitors through the early days of aviation at the beginning of the 20th century, through to 1940 before the United States joined the Second World War via the dawn of the Jet Age, The Cold War, and Keeping the Peace.
These displays simultaneously tell the story of both aviation in general and the history of Hill AFB, giving perspective on the growth and evolution of Hill Air Force Base alongside developments in aircraft technology.

In the beginning of flight display a Curtiss JN-4D “Jenny” a trainer from the first WW is a eye catcher.
The World War II exhibit has several examples of aircraft as well as military vehicles, equipment, a V-1 Buzz Bomb and an atomic bomb replica. The aircraft on display include the B-17 Flying Fortress, B-29 Superfortress, A-26 Invader and P-38 Lightning. The collection is still growing with aircraft being recovered from places like a B-24 form the Aleutian Island where it crashed after a raid over Japan

Via the dawn off the jet age, aircraft are shown depicting the beginnings of the jet age with machines such as the F-80 Shooting star, the B-47 Stratojet and F-84 Thunderjet. From the same period transport and training aircraft are on display.

The Cold War era witch covers the area between 1954 and 1989 has covers a wide variety off jets. The large number of planes on display from this period include Daggers ,Darts, Phantoms and Falcons, missiles, military equipment and helicopters like the Jolly Green Giant and Choctaw. Something not seen in most museums are the ICBM rockets and transporters and there are also examples of thermonuclear bombs.
There last period are the aircraft used post 1990 , such as B-1 Lancer, a Boeing KC-135 Stratotanker and a Sikorsky MH-53 Pave Lowe Helicopter, it's last flight was to Hill AFB on September 18, 2008. This period is more a extension off the previous then a separated period.

Whilst much of the exhibits on display focus on aircraft, the is also much to learn about the aviation military heroes through the Utah Aviation Hall of Fame. The work of female pilots is also recognized here in the exhibit about Women Air force Service Pilots, who performed non-combat aviation jobs to free up the male pilots for combat.

The museum has an excellent collection of aircraft and is well worth a visit.
