Fighter world Williamtown

Situated  just 20 mins drive north of Newcastle, Located at the entrance to the Royal Australian Air Force Base at Williamtown, Fighter World is a dynamic view of the past integrated with the present and future of Australian Fighter Aviation..

The museum is consist of two hangars displaying the collection including planes from the Royal Australian Air Force and some foreign aircraft. Most of the aircraft on display have a connection with the adjacent air base. Like the the Gloster Meteor, the first Vampire jet built in Australia, the Avon Sabre and the Mirage III which all served at the base. One of the newest arrivals is a   General Dynamics F-111. The World War Two is depicted by a Spitfire and Messerschmitt BF-109 replica.

Fighter World also offers the opportunity to sit in the cockpit of a Mirage interceptor and Macchi jet trainer and experience first-hand what it’s like to be one of Australia’s ‘Top Gun’ pilots in today’s hi-tech world.

Williamtown is currently home to F/A-18 Hornet fighters (operated by No. 2 Operational Conversion Unit, No. 3 Squadron and No. 77 Squadron), BAE Hawk 127 Lead-In Fighters (operated by No. 76 Squadron), Wedgetail airborne early warning and control aircraft (operated by No. 2 Squadron) and Pilatus PC-9 training aircraft (operated by No. 4 Squadron)

Along with these airframes is an extensive collection of aero engines, weapons and equipment from the last 100 years of aviation.

Perched on the Observation Deck you can witness the various aircraft of the Royal Australian Air Force  Fighter Squadrons take-off and land while listening to all the action on the live audio feed direct from the Williamtown Control Tower.
