On
Tsuiki AFB the 8 Kokudan is based with the following units; 304
Hikotai (F-45, T4) and 6 Hokotai (F-1,T-2,T-4) |
|
|
Tsuiki Open House on the northeastern shores of Kyushu
island attracted a lot of 'last chance F-1' spotters.
When the replacement (F-2) shows up, you know
your time is up. So, as the final F-1 year has come,
it was time to stock up on missing F-1's and see what
else was in store.

The morning program was filled with action like fast
missile reload on a pair of F-15's and a simulated run
up and dash of a pair of F-1's. As it happened, both
pairs were 'substituted' by other pairs of the same
type at the far end of the runway so neither pair
actually took part in the flying display.. |
|
The four F-1's flying did some simulated ground attack
runs, with explosions going off in the field. Two mobile Gatling guns firing blanks at them added
realism to the fray.
|
|
After lunch the Blue Impulse closed off the day.
Although not a very seasoned JASDF Open House visitor,
I must conclude Tsuiki security forces sweeping the
operational area clean within 20 mins. meant the Open
House had come to an end rapido.
Compared to other festivals, where one could linger
for an hour or two after the show, this one was a bit
of a bummer.
