Koksijde Airshow 2005

This year’s air show was the 25th anniversary of the Koksijde air show.

It’s not a big air show but it is always a well organised one. That’s probably why I attended it for the 11^th time this year. The first one was is 1986. This year’s air show was attended by 80.000 people over two days. The weather changed in the week before the air show from summer showers to very sunny weather. It was this year for the first time that the air show, to my knowledge, was organised in September. Usually it’s in the first weekend of July.

Being organized in September it was in the same weekend as the Rivolto Frecce Tricolore 45^th Anniversary Air Show and that was probably the reason that the Patrouille the France only displayed on the Saturday.

The highlights of the show where the air display of the Hungarian Mig 29, not for the Sunday because it had broken down, and the static display of the Greek F4E. Another rare air display was the one of the Belgium CM01 Falcon 20 from the 21 Squadron. Never before I saw an air display of a business jet performed so smoothly. Luckily there was no minister on board…..

In the air display there where also ancient jets like the Gnat T1 G-FRCE the former XS104, T33 G-TBRD and the F86 G-SABR it looks like a new era in the air display scene and a welcome innovation for those who only have seen these ancient jets in a museum
