Cambrai Tiger
Meet 1986
|
|
|
The history of the tiger meet go back to 1961 when the first tiger meet was held at RAF Woodbridge on July 19th, England. At the first meet there where only three squadrons
participating with on thing in common, a tiger in the squadron badge. The units where
79th Tactical Fighter Squadron USAF, 74 Squadron RAF and EC1/12 of the French Air Force.
Tiger Meets are the Associations reason for being. While in the early days the Tiger Meet was mainly a social get together from Tiger squadrons things changed rapidly and tactical
flying exercises were soon implemented into the Tiger Meet program.
On a typical Tiger Meet flying program you will find missions like: range firing, air-to-air, low level navigation and COMAO
missions... all of them with briefings and debriefing

Like
most meetings in these days the number of aircraft was large. A mass take of
alone the F-1's was good for 12 aircraft. One of the many highlights' was
when a Mirage 4 (Nuclear bomber) taxied out for a simulated tactical
departure, never seen a departure in this was I was a amazes as the Mirage
turned the air black with rocket fuel fumes as it performed a JATO assisted
take off, absolutely awesome.
A other one the mass take of of the Nato Tiger members, just rolling by one
by one in a steady stream off aircraft.
